Fun with Focals - Day 1

The inspiration: Teri Bienvenue's Cowgirl necklace that appeared in the Summer 2007 issue of Stringing.

For my version  I used Czech faceted glass, copper spacers, clusters of etched Vintaj jumprings, a humblebeads branch disk bead, Vintaj brass wire and chain.

The assignment: Create a horizontal focal using chunky beads lined up on wire.

You have until Nov. 6th to add a link to this post with your version of today's challenge.

The grand prize is a $50 gift certificate to Humblebeads.com

Read the full details for the contest here and a chance to win a year's subscription to Stringing magazine.

  1. Great - this works well for lampwork beads! I think I might be able to handle this!

  2. What a beautiful piece! I adore that color of the czech beads, I use them all the time.

  3. I really like how you've tucked the humble bead just slightly off center of the czech beads. I am quite enamoured of these horizontal focals lately, and this one is so nice.

  4. I'm on it! And, avoiding homework and daydreaming about my husband were perfect motivators. :) So, here's my entry...

  10. Hi! I just finished a piece, and it has both a clasp in the front and also the horizontal bar. Can i use it as my entry for both number one here and also number 5? Or does each one need to be an individual piece?

Just need to take pics and then i can post a link here.

Here's mine. Two down, three to go. Not sure I can do it since I've got a big volunteer project and two shows coming up this week.

I actually created this on Day One and decided to use the colors from the Art Bead Scene October art of the Piano Playing Cow as my guide (alas...my computer crashed and I missed uploading this to the ABS website in time). I like the way it turned out and it is super comfy to wear. I think I will do this type of focal again.

Thanks so much for the inspiration Heather!
    Enjoy the day!
