1. Don't try to keep up with anyone but yourself.
2. Don't compare yourself to others - relish in your uniqueness.
3. Don't worry about coming up with new ideas. They will happen when you give yourself time to play.

5. Focus on what you can offer, not on what you don't have.
6. You will not fall behind everyone else, you are doing exactly what you should be at this moment.
7. Don't be too guarded, life brings amazing things when you are open to new possibilities.
8. It's not a competition, it's a journey. Fellow artists are not competitors, they are travel companions.

Absolutely wonderful. Could be advice as well.

Thanks Heather, great words of wisdom to live by. I am going to print it off to for a daily reminder.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully put, Heather. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI'm also going to print this out for reminders! Thank you and Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteI'd like to suggest an addition that I'm paraphrasing from a recent Carolyn Hax column: Identify those who work to impede your progress and minimize contact with them.
ReplyDeleteIn addition to Carol B's very wise words, may I offer:
ReplyDeleteRemember that no one is going to read your resume at your funeral. Refuse to let yourself be defined by a job title. A job is just money to use to fund your passions... such as jewelry. Oh, and put a little food on the table and pay a few bills. (And if you're making a living doing creative work, you can except yourself to this rule... a little. But it's still more important to be a good person than a great jewelry designer.) But a job title is a particularly lousy to define a human being. You are so much more!
absolutely positively perfect!
ReplyDeleteAre you sure that these words are only for you, my dear? Are you sure that you weren't speaking to me, just a little? I will be printing this out and posting it above my work table... a manifesto of creativity for the new year.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this.
Ever the inspiration.
Enjoy the day.
Erin
