my other love

I'm getting ready for the SCBWI's annual children's book conference next week. I leave on Thursday and will be gone for 6 days. It's always hard to leave my girls for that long. But then time flies when you are having fun and I plan on having my share of fun. The conference is in Los Angeles and I love having the chance to hang out with such a creative group of artists and writers.
I told myself I wouldn't go crazy getting ready for this event. There is a portfolio contest and in case you haven't figured it out, I'm a bit competitive. I can't help myself. So I caved and have been working on new samples for my portfolio - going overboard once again! You can check out my illustration work at Humblearts.com.
I will be gone until the 13th. My etsy shop will close Tuesday morning. Same drill, you'll be able to find my beads at Bello Modo while I'm gone. The free shipping continues until I close the shop, so you can save yourself a few bucks.
What is your other creative love, besides beads? Maybe quilting, gardening, cooking, photography?

Leave me a comment about it and you could win this resin/humblebead pendant. I will pick one random winner on the 13th.

Love the illustrations :o) But, I knew you had it in you from the jewlery sketches you've shared. My other creative love has been cross stitch, but I am going to start playing with polymer clay and other media soon, too! There are so many things to try - the possibilities are endless!

My other love is scrapbooking. Lately, it has been nice to see how I can interchange scrapbooking products into jewelry and vice versa.

I love crazy quilting, which encompases everything I like to do:tatting, beading, hand embroidery, needle felting etc. I love your new resin pendants, and your illustrations are beautiful!

Have a great time at the conference, Heather. Your illustrations are wonderful! My other love is gardening. Although my space is small, I find room to make things grow.

You are a mighty talented force to be reckoned with Miss Heather! I love your illustrations and want to see them in more childrens' books! The ones out there are so lacking (I know from experience....as I am the daughter of the VP of sales of a book manufacturer!).
Love your polymer clay mixed media piece.
Other creative loves...singing (just sang for a wedding yesterday) and I would like to get into more mixed media art....
Thanks for the inspiration! Have a great time!
Enjoy the day!

My other Passion is my full time job, working in an art museum. There is nothing more inspiring by being among masterpieces every day. I love working with art, seeing it up close and personal, being able to see the details... being able to see it as the artist saw it.

Oh my goodness, I love that illustration of Titania who fell in love with an ass (at least, I think that's what it is??)! Beautiful. I was an avid knitter until the SO came along and started winding yarn around his neck and jumping off the couch. I still knit his Halloween costume and winter hats, but I have to do it after he's in bed...

Wow! I had no idea that you were so good at illustrations. I'm so impressed. My other love is cooking. I especially like challenges. My mom recently went vegetarian, so now my challenge is to cook good meals for her. Thanks for all the giveaways recently and enjoy your "vacation".

Have a FANTASTIC time! My other loves include cooking, gardening, and cross stitch. I have made some wonderful samplers for my kids, who don't want them anymore!! I don't know where to store them, so they don't get ruined, because I hope they want them when they are older! Have fun - beautiful illustrations!

Gorgeous pendant! Hmmmm, I have so many other loves including gardening, calligraphy, cooking and volunteer work. But I would have to say my most favorite love after beading is travel. We take at least one trip a year. When Hubby and I married we agreed to take our nieces and nephews with us when they turned 5 years old. Little did we know then that we would have 23 of the little buggers (and still counting). It's been a blast, and we have not regretted it.

Bottom and Titania-ther perfect couple! I also love to bake all sorts of cookies, pastries, and breads. My favorite to make is an espresso mocha custard filled creampuff with powdered sugar and fudge sauce drizzled on top.

Your resin pendant is outstanding.

Love your illustrations!

My favorite is bead stringing - playing with color and shape.
After that I would have to say bead embroidery.

When I am not beading I like to work on the computer writing illustrations and instructions for bead projects. Have a great time in L.A.

Heather, my other creative love is watercolor painting. I started my watercolor painting blog several years ago and, when I got hooked on wire wrap and beads, I started a new blog: http://lovebeadsandwire.blogspot.com/ for that creative outlet. Blogger uses the same watercolor blog handle for both, so that is why that appears on my comments.

I am new to this exciting world of beads and wire and in the learning-a-lot phase currently. I have developed a passion (okay, addiction) for beads and rocks. I have a tumbler, which is going 24/7 right now, making more specimens for my wrapped pendants, etc. It is difficult not to go overboard on all this stuff!

Your illustration that is shown is well-done and I will move on over to your illustration work blog next.

My other passion is needlework and most especially counted cross stitch. I love doing things with a needle and thread. I guess that's one of the reasons why I love beading. It is very similar.

My other love is cooking...for me it's about creating new taste sensations. I enjoy wafting the smells and watching my husband's face light up when he takes that first bite (he's my guinea pig). So many possibilities there.
Love the pendant...pick me! Pick me!!!

That is a fantastic pendant! My other big love besides jewelry is blogging and doing Decoupage, any boxes or home decor items. :) Thanks for a wonderful blog!

Love the ginko leaves with the definition of lasting! Great!

My other love is drawing. Luckily, I use the drawing in my career of interior design and graphic design.

Thanks for the giveaway!

Having been ill again and looking for inspiration to continue beading again and my relatively new found love of knitting- your blog expressing so beautifully your passions is sparking my inner creativity. You pendant "lasting" could not be more perfect in reminding me that I have not lost- count not ever lose- the permanent love of making ideas into my vision of beauty. Thanks Heather!

Please excuse my typos- Last sentence should read "Your pendant "lasting" could not be more perfect in reminding me that I have not lost- could not ever lose- the permanent love of making ideas into my vision of beauty. Thanks Heather!"

I love organizing. As a child, I'd scatter and swirl my collection of little Golden books along my bedroom floor just so I could alphabetize them. LOL No joke!

Heather,

Can't wait to hear how it went. Do you need a ride to the bead show on Sat? Give me a call I'll pick you up.

Hey Heather,

I had no idea you were so passionate about children's (book) illustration. I checked out the site and love the artwork!
This is also one of my passions, although I am not as productive as you! Wishing you the best of luck, my kids will love your book!
