Inspired by Summer: Starfish

What's more summery than a day at the beach?  While I've never seen starfish on the beach, I have seen a few tide pools!  An actual starfish was used in making the mold for these beads.  I have a collection of the tiniest starfish you've ever seen along with a few larger specimens here on the studio shelves.  For this series, which started with a toggle clasp and pendant, I wanted to create the feeling of a little tide pool with a painted watery effect.  They remind me of watercolor paintings.

The earrings are made with brass wire, yellow citrine and two types of chain.  By using two different sizes and finishes of chain you can add in a nice kick of texture while keeping the focus on the charms.

A bracelet I whipped up using this new connector charm.  I added in smoky quartz, citrine and resin along with brass.

And here are the charms, they could be used horizontal or vertical in your designs.  In case you don't get my newsletter, and why don't you, I'm having a sale this weekend.  And yes these starfish are part of it!  First in my Etsy shop it's free shipping for all orders.  With the purchase of $50 or more you'll receive one of these connector charms free!  No need for a coupon or code for my Etsy shop.  And extended until Monday is the 20% off sale for my website.  My website has beads that are made to order and you'll find all my best-sellers and favorites there.  Use discount code summer10 for orders from my website.

And to kick off the Inspired by Nature series I'm going to give away a pair of the tiny starfish charms.  To enter, answer this question in the comments:
"Tell me one object from nature that you find inspiring, just one and be specific!"
Want to be entered twice?  Twitter or Facebook about this giveaway and let me know you did in the comments section.  Good luck!  (I'll draw one random winner on Friday.)

I find bare branches of trees and bushes very sculptural and inspiring. Especially if they twist and turn and are knotty and has a lot of character. The surface is also important. Where the branches divides is also a nice spot.

There is a dead branch on a pine tree just outside my bedroom window. It looks just like a dragons head. It is wonderful. Sitting there protecting our house. I shall try to capture it on a photograph and put it on my blog.

This starfish design is even prettier in person! I nabbed a few at B & B. I am most inspired by a peacock. I love the variety of colors, and I love studying the patterns on the feathers!

The starfish are wonderful! Great color for the tide pool. I love how you captured the texture in the starfish and emphasized it with the coppery color. I am looking forward to following your inspiration series again!! Loved the last one.

The starfish charms are just gorgeous! I love the watery color and the vivid texture.

One thing in nature that inspires us? Just one? While many things in nature inspire me, I would have to pick the ginkgo leaf. I love the graceful shape, the way the leaves flutter on the tree, and how they change from a lovely green to a bright yellow during autumn.

I have admired your starfish charms for some time now! They are so cool. My inspiration depends on the season, but since it is summer my inspiration is the ocean. Any time I need a creative boost, I take a walk to the beach, plus it calms me and helps me clear my head if I am stressed. Thanks for the giveaway!!

standing ankle deep, at the foot of the Pacific Ocean.as the frothy, foamy waves make their last effort to reach the shore. The sound, the smell, the misty freshness reaching my nostrils, dampening my skin, bringing a sense of aliveness and the knowing of its amazing endless power, beauty and tranquility all rolled up in one of Gods most beautiful gifts to us.

It's got to be the lotus blossom. It's so beautiful, and it symbolizes purity in some cultures because it rises up out of the mud with a pristine and fragrant bloom.

Rocks. I have jars, bowls, dishes, and little baskets scattered all over my house filled with baby rocks and my garden is loaded with larger ones collected from various woods and lakefronts I've visited- I love collecting them, studying the colors, sorting them, etc. I find peace in handling them and I think that helps put me in the creative frame of mind.

Textures from nature. I have a strong preference for 3D art and I love nature so textures taken from nature really get me.
